More Than Racing

This is our story of how we grow what we love and how we can help young athletes become good humans.

There are great programs in existence today that support the sport of cycling in the community. However, there is a gap between the beginner and elite racing tiers. We want to provide the opportunity for continued growth that helps those that are making the jump from the beginner/early development to elite racing teams. That is where ‘More Than Racing’ comes in.

Why is it called ‘More Than Racing’?

What is the goal of this team? This is a question that needed to be answered before the name even existed. At the end of the season, the race, the day, there is one thing we can all agree on - that being a good human is most important. Riding bikes and racing is a conduit to learning life lessons, building camaraderie, and creating a community of inclusion, growth, and opportunity. When all is said and done, being a good human that promotes healthy competition helps set the stage for everything else that follows.

Cyclocross is my favorite because its a full sprint the whole time, so there is no question to how hard people are working. All out, the whole time. The courses are technically challenging most of the time but still fun. Every small twitch of the bars and placement of the tires count towards how much speed you carry in and out of corners. Even if the laps are short there is never a boring moment with having to get off and run or jump over barriers or stairs. Overall, the whole sport is fun, fast, and provides a great community for all.

Goals: Work on cornering and improving short bursts of power over hills

I am a little obsessed with bikes and racing. I like to train, sleep and eat. I also work part time in a local bike shop where my passion for racing is supported. I make friends easily and love the camaraderie of racing 'cross - many of my friends are also my rivals, but we can still have a laugh together!

Goals: to build on the success of last year with MTR, compete in UCI races and travel to more distant races.

My favorite races are Rochester and Really Rad.I love the way that cyclocross is a competitive and a challenging sport, but that is what makes it so fun. Cyclocross is such a great way to meet new people and make new friends at races and practices, so the season isn’t just about racing, it’s about having fun and working hard!

Goals: I am hoping to have a good, competitive season and podium in a large field as well as developing new skills and friendships

I love racing cyclocross because of the combination of short, high-intensity races and the inclusion of technical elements, which I find exhilarating. Additionally, I greatly enjoy the opportunity to connect with friends at races, and I am continually impressed by the kindness and supportiveness of the cyclocross community.

Goals: I am looking forward to adding some new races into my race calendar this year, being a part of MTR and just getting to race in general after missing all of last season. My goals are to not re-injure myself and to train and be able to perform at a high level at races
